As people who love this city, we want to help her become her best. So, what does Athens need most? Political progress? Economic advancement? More education? We think the people of Athens need Jesus. When people are in a growing relationship with Jesus, they are more honest, better parents, more generous, and they positively affect those around them. This is why our mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus.
We are working to create a church that unchurched people love to attend and we believe the next step in that journey is for Athens Church to seek a full-time facility that can serve as the epicenter of our ministry efforts in this area.
We're under contract to purchase the former (Wal-Mart/Steve & Barry's) building near the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Loop 10 behind Starbucks. The entire 110K sq ft available in this facility will be masterplanned, but about 40-50K sq ft will be developed in phase one. The property sits on 11 acres of land with 700 parking spots, and will feature a 1200 seat auditorium, themed environments for children birth through 5th grade, student ministry, small group and other environments. It will also serve as the operational headquarters for our ministry efforts in this area.
Depending on finances, permitting and construction, we hope to begin services in this new facility sometime in 2011.
We anticipate the entire project costing approximately $5 million dollars. This is divided into the $1.5 million purchase and $3.5 million of renovations.
Thank you so much for your desire to help us create a church that unchurched people love to attend!
